PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

I hope everyone has had an opportunity to get out and catch a steelhead, fishing on the Clearwater has been pretty good.  If not your time is running out, the drifters will be out in force soon and a quality experience will be hard to come by so time is short.  Grab that spey rod and head for the river, you won't be sorry.  Speaking of steelhead fishing, Mike up at the Red Shed held his Spey Clave a couple weekends ago and it appeared to be a large success.  I saw many of your club members there and everyone was having a good time.  Craig Lannigan and I have cast spey rods together at the last 3 Spey Claves and always have fun experimenting with the new rods.  This year we cast the next generation Echo rods and they were pretty nice.  It's a great way to learn and see new fly fishing products.  If you haven't been to one, plan to attend next year. Mike usually has some great door prizes and cooks about 300 burgers.  He really tries hard to make that fun for everyone.

Just as a reminder, we'll be having board elections at the next club meeting.  Please give some thought to serving on the board.  If you're interested and would like to know more about what that involves, please feel free to give me a call.  Club activities have pretty much run their course for the season.  I'd like say thanks to everyone that participated in our events and particularly to those who volunteer to be an event leader.  I think we had a good season and shortly, the new board of directors will begin planning next years activities.  We concluded our summer of activities with the Women's Fly Fishing Clinic.  It was a great success this year.  Several club members took about 15 women students out fishing.  The class was an enthusiastic group, I could believe how many showed up at Kelly Creek with new Simms waders and new fly rods.  Everyone appeared to have a great time and a bet we get several new members out of the class.  Ginny Foote will be taking over the planning for next year’s clinic so if you have any ideas for her pull her aside at one of our meetings.  It takes a lot of work to plan that class and I'm sure she'll be interested in your ideas.  I like to give a special thanks to Fred Trevey, Will Godfrey, Saker Medevarapu, Jerry Cebula, Troy Robinson, Matt Van Vleet and Bob and Rob Clark.  All of those folks have been a tremendous help every year and have really been the backbone of this class.
