FOOD: The China Inn has both Chinese and American food available.

Although I am not quite sure if it is winter, spring, or summer, it sounds like many of us have getting a line wet here and there, so I look forward to several stirring fish stories! But on a non-fishing note, usually by this time of year it’s Morel mushroom hunting time, and I was hoping to spy on Diane and Bill, to find their secret sweet spots. However, since there is still a lot of snow in the Blues, I think that that timeline will also be pushed back this year. With all the record snow pack, hopefully we will have some of that snow melting through the summer and we will enjoy a good year of fishing. It’s hard to believe that it is almost summer! My kids will be done for the year in a short 4 weeks! Salmon season has also officially opened up, although if I played the odds I would buy a lotto ticket before I bought a salmon tag….

The club still needs someone to volunteer to be our program chair! At the moment the board is attempting to perform this duty and, unfortunately, we are not succeeding. The program chair is not a lot of work but it is not always easy. But on the upside, it is a great way to make future contacts with people who are well known, or well respected, within our fly fishing community. It is also nearing the time to start planning for our next fly fishing fair! To make next year’s event bigger and better than last year we will need more club members to volunteer. However, if anyone is hesitant to volunteer be appeased there is no draft! Hey wait a sec, that’s actually not a bad idea…..

Many of our club members enjoy the ease and opportunity that living next to the Snake and Clearwater Rivers afford. It is very easy to get on the river, after work and pound out a few steelhead during magic hour; if you can find a spot to fish. On that same note, we have several club members that enjoy traveling the world in search of trout and sea run salmonids in out of the way places, or in unique environments. Craig Lannigan, made famous as Mr. July in the Lochsa Calendar Company made such a trip last fall to Russia in order to pursue the monster Atlantic salmon of the Kola Peninsula. Craig came back with a few new fish stories, a few new flies, and a few more rods!
