PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Saker Medevarapu - Kelly Creek Flycasters President

Greetings Folks!

Well spring is finally creeping in the door and early season fishing is starting to pick up!  I went to the Bitterroot two weeks ago and Saturday was awesome for Skwala’s and adult midges!  The lower river was not as heavily packed as I have seen it before and there was even less Sunday because it got cold overnight.  But you could still pound up a few on Skwalas if you had a mind to do so!  I hear that Laura and Tim, Zach, and maybe Will have a trip planned to the Bitterroot this month.  All the fish I caught were very healthy and just slabs this year!  The owner of the newest fly shop in Hamilton says that is because they had more water this winter and more forage for the fish.  Whatever the reason, I think that the fishing this year on the Bitterroot will be worth the trip if you can make it happen.   The eastern Washington lakes are also thawed out just very recently too (and maybe frozen back over again this last week).   I heard that Lenore and Rock Lake were fishing fair, but in general you may want to wait a few weeks before hitting the lakes.

Congratulations to the March incentive winner of the 4pc 5wt 9” TFO rod; Marshall Black.  I have been fishing your rod this last month Marshall and it is AWESOME!  I just thought I would break it in for you, let me know when you want it!

The Clearwater Flycasters are putting on their Fundraiser on April 8 at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, at the University Inn, Moscow.  If you have an opportunity plan on attending their event.  Dinner, I believe is optional, you can attend without purchasing a ticket and just go for the auction if you choose.

Last month several of us got together at Tony and Marilyn’s home at the Grande Ronde for a casting session.  The Vitales have offered to teach whomever is interested, in becoming a competent flycasting instructor.  There is no certification associated with the courses.  The goal of this program is to develop proficient instructors, for our various programs, that teach effective and in the same and consistent manner.  There is no fee for this program but please be aware that if you take these sessions you will become the club’s go to people on teaching casting at different venues.  If you are not able to make all the sessions, those present should be able to offer make up sessions and bring you up to spend on the info that was missed.  This a great opportunity for our club members to learn from a great and competent team!  The next session will be April 11 at 12:30pm at Granite Lake Park.

See you all at the meeting!

Look forward to seeing you the meeting!

Saker
