June’s speaker will be Dan Landeen.
“Fly Fishing Nez Perce Country”
Dan
Landeen is a resident of Clarkston, Washington and is employed
by the Nez Perce Tribe as a wildlife biologist. Dan’s hobbies
include bamboo fly rod building, backpacking, flyfishing, and
photography.
He is also the principal author of two
books, I Am of This Land: Wildlife of the Hanford Site and
Salmon and His People: Fish and Fishing in Nez Perce Culture.
He is also the author of Steelhead Fly Fishing Nez Perce
Country: Snake River Tributaries, Rivers, Anglers, Flies,
Origins which was published by Frank Amato Publishing this
April.
Dan Landeen's unique book chronicles the
history of Steelhead flyfishing in Chief Joseph country on three
of America's most storied rivers: The Grande Ronde, the
Clearwater, and the Snake River. Dozens of historic and
contemporary photographs amplify the books interviews. Among
other things, this program will show us local steelhead fly
fishing master's in their own element along with their favorite
flies.
Join us on Thursday, June 8th

President’s Message………………...
Greetings club members. This will be the
last newsletter for a while so I’m going to take this
opportunity to remind you all of the activities we have planned
for the summer. 1st off, Bill Lillibridge will be
organizing a clean-up of the Burling Pond in North Lewiston the
weekend of June 24th and 25th. We do this
in order to prep the pond for our kids fishing class and it’s
always been a pretty fun outing. Plan to meet at about 8:00am
and work for 2-3 hours. We’ll also be serving up another great
breakfast prepared by Bob Clark. Bill will be e-mailing more
details, but plan to bring a rake, waders and gloves. Last year
Ginny did a full back-flip off of one of the piers, she promises
to do even better this year.
Our 1st fish-out of the year
will be held on the Lochsa the weekend of July 8th
and 9th . This July fish-out is always a great
success and usually has a very good turn-out. Fishing
conditions look like they will be perfect. Plan for a dutch
oven feed Saturday night and plan on an hour Sunday morning for
the highway clean up on U.S. 12. As usual, we’ll meet in Loop B
at Wendover campground at MP 158. Please RSVP with Zach so we
can plan appropriately for Saturday’s dinner.
That gets us all the way to August, when we
have our annual Kelly Creek fish-out the weekend of August 19th
and 20th. Bill Lillibridge has agreed to be our trip
leader for this one so remember to contact him if you have
questions. We generally meet at the
|
|
Kelly Forks campground for a weekend of
fishing the North Fork, Kelly Creek, Moose Creek and Cayus.
The club will send out e-mail reminders of
these activities before they happen, but you will not be
receiving a monthly newsletter until
September when our regular meetings start up again.
I hope everyone has an opportunity to
attend one or all of our fish-outs. Let’s try and make the
summer a success for the club and have a great time fishing
together, after all, that what our club is all about. Take care
and I wish all of you a fantastic season.
Catch you on the fly…….

Graydon, Greg & Coleman Dietrich
You’ll see these familiar faces at the KCF
meetings. Greg grew up fishing with his Father on the West
Coast with any bait or lures that could be found. Greg took up
fly fishing when he was a teenager and now his kids really enjoy
the sport too! Greg and Sharon have three children: Alex 12,
Coleman 9, and Graydon 7. Graydon enjoys tying flies and has
put some in our monthly raffle. They turn out great! The
Dietrich family enjoys fishing for bass and trout. Sharon
enjoys reading a good book while watching the fish get reeled in
by smiling fishers! Say Hi to the Dietrich family at the next
club meeting!
