President’s Message………………….
Our new meeting location at the Quality Inn in Clarkston was well-received by the club. In total, fourty-six people attended to hear Kent Goodman talk about spring creek fishing on Idaho’s Silver Creek. His presentation was informative as ever, and we really enjoy his continued interest in sharing his fishing adventures with the club. Chris James, our scholarship awardee for this year, also attended, and was presented with at $1000 scholarship check. Chris will be back soon to talk about his research projects.
This is my last newsletter as president of the Club – Zach Funkhouser will be moving up as president at the November meeting. We will also be holding elections for three new board of director positions to fill those who are stepping down after three years of service. Please consider taking a directorship position – it’s the best way to directly support your Club. The new vice president will be chosen by the board from its members; and will go on to become Club president in November of next year.
Hope to see you all soon – keep your stick on the ice, and your line on the water.
Bill Lillibridge – President
Summer Outing 2005
This summer, the last week of July, my daughter and 3 grand kids invited me to go on a camp out on Dworshak reservoir. The weather was hot and the lake was full, very pretty. We had 2 jet boats with all the camp gear and food. After finding a camp site on the lake, we unloaded the boats and spent most of the time pulling the kids on big tubes around the lake. The late evening, Andy and I took one boat and went along the shore lines popping fly’s towards the rocks. I didn’t know there were so many hungry bass in there. The hopper & the muddler fly seemed to get the best action.
Friday morning, we decided to take one boat and go up the Little North Fork and try trout fishing. As we got up in the channel, it got narrower and we came to a log jam completely across the channel. We went to one side of the jam and the kids sat on the front of the boat and pushed the logs out of the way and we slowly made our way through the mess of logs. As we went further up stream and got into the current of the Little North Fork, I found my way up to the front on the boat and started fly fishing. The results were amazing! Every cast you had cutthroat coming after your fly from all directions. The stream got too shallow to move on so we tied up to a big rock and proceeded on up stream afoot. Andy and Taylor used a bubble and a hopper fly and caught fish after fish. I used the renegade, as always, and we all had great fishing. Taylor harvested a couple of cuts for his grandma back home. They were 18 & 20 inch fish.
It makes you wonder what the fishing would have been like 20, 30, or 40 years ago. I’ll bet it was unreal.
A trip to remember forever!
Fred Smith

As you know we are no longer holding our regular monthly club meetings at the Helm. The club has made arrangements to meet from here on out at the Quality Inn in Clarkston, behind Costco. The agreement we made it to sell $300.00 worth of dinner each night in order the get the meeting room for free. This means we’ll need a good attendance at our functions. We’d also like to ask our membership to plan on having dinner and to spend $10 to $12 dollars on your meal (drink do count toward our $300 total). The facilities are very good and we anticipate great food and service, so remember to come to our next meeting and enjoy a nice dinner with your fellow friends and club members.

Brian O’Keefe has been serious about fly fishing for the past 30 years. During the past 20, cameras have played a significant part in his outdoor lifestyle. He has traveled to some of the wildest and most remote angling destinations in the world, as well as locations more accessible. Brian lives with his wife and fishing partner, Judith in Powell Butte, Oregon and he continues to work as an angling and outdoor photographer, having had photographs published in periodicals such as Field & Stream; Fly Fisherman; Fly, Rod and Reel; and Fly Fishing Salt Waters, just to name a few.
